This temporary measure is to make maximum space available over Christmas before the contractor returns in January to complete the works.
A Tunbridge Wells Borough Council spokesman said: “The project has been extended because during earlier work it became apparent that more repairs were needed than originally anticipated.
“These unforeseeable repairs were hidden within the concrete structure, and as a result additional time to complete the work is necessary.”
It is now anticipated that all refurbishment work will be completed before the end of February 2019.
During this final phase the majority of the car park will remain open.
