Town primary school celebrates its first 'Good' report by Ofsted

Temple Grove Academy, in Friar’s Way, was inspected by Ofsted in September in five key areas: Effectiveness of leadership and management; Quality of teaching, learning and assessment; Personal development, behaviour and welfare; Outcomes for pupils; and Early Years provision.

The school, which opened in 2013 and was formerly known as Sherwood Park, last had an Ofsted inspection in April 2017, when it was rated as ‘Requires Improvement’. As a result, a new leadership team was put in place which has, according to a school spokesperson, ‘driven considerable change’ in the school.

The primary’s latest Ofsted report states ‘Leaders are ambitious for their pupils. They work hard to provide a broad and engaging curriculum for everyone’, and that ‘Teachers have high expectations and pupils value the interesting work they are given’.

Mark Dugdale, Chair of the Temple Grove Academy Trust, which operates the 225-pupil school, said: “This is an important milestone in the history of the academy, which has faced significant social and demographic issues for a number of years. The result is testament to the hard work of all the staff and pupils at the academy, particularly over the period since the last Ofsted inspection.”

He added: “The Senior Leadership Team has a vision to help all children develop lively enquiring minds, good personal relationships, and the knowledge and skills for the ever-changing technological and multi-cultural world – we’re delighted that has been recognised.

“The children have also worked hard to achieve self-discipline and tolerance of others, with the Leadership Team emphasising the importance of good home-school links and forming strong partnerships with parents.”

Paul Burton, Chair of Governors and also a parent at the academy, commented: “Great progress has been made by the Senior Leadership Team on working with the parent body. Communication is excellent, there is a consistency of approach and an accessibility to the leaders which is welcomed by all parents.”
