Time for dragon race teams to take up the challenge

Last year, hundreds of paddlers took to the water while more watched from the shoreline as 24 teams competed in the racing itself.

Previous events have been organised by Funraiser that indicated it was no longer able to run the races. Markerstudy Leisure, that operates Bewl Water has stepped in and taken over the organising to keep the event afloat.

To be involved on the day entrants will need a crew of 16 paddlers to work together in a Chinese-style Dragon Boat over a 250-meter course.

All competitors are required to wear fancy dress.

Andrew Daniells, Chief Operating Officer at Markerstudy Leisure, said : “ We expect that this year up to 60 dragon boat teams will take to the water racing in heats throughout the day for the honour of being crowned Bewl Water Dragon Boat Race winners 2019.

“Possibly more important than winning is the unique opportunity for charities to raise much needed funds. The races enable charities to support their good causes, whilst having a lot of fun and possibly getting a little wet.”
