The Pantiles Vintage Fair attracts 2,000 despite rain

The Mead School in Tunbridge Wells gave a professional level performance in the ISA drama contests

Old times and good times were celebrated at The Pantiles Vintage Fair, held over two contrasting days last weekend [July 28 and 29].

Around 2,000 shoppers snapped up retro furniture, vintage clothing, collectables and antiques at the annual event which was held alongside food stalls and live music.

Julian Leefe-Griffiths, Organiser and Managing Director of The Tunbridge Wells Hotel, said of the sixth event: ‘It was a game of two halves. Saturday was great. We had 1,800 to 2,000 people.

‘There was a nice atmosphere and there was some good music on the stage. There were some 35 stalls with a whole range of items.’

‘The festival’s sponsor H Engineering presented two classic cars which attracted a lot of interest.’

‘Sunday it rained [for a sustained period] for the first time in months and the exhibitors turned up but it was not so successful.’

The Vintage Fair will return in 2019, according to the Organiser, who has already pencilled in a similar date at the end of next July.

It was the latest in a series of events on The Pantiles, which stages weekly jazz nights on Thursdays throughout the summer.

‘We have been lucky this year with the weather,’ Mr Leefe-Griffiths continued.

‘We have done a gin festival and a jazz festival and had incredible weather. We have held a broad spectrum of events.’
