THE Southborough High Brooms and District Overseas Friendship Association [SHDOFA] welcomed six guests from their twin town of Lambersart in northern France for its Annual General Meeting at Meadows School.

SHDOFA Chairman Cllr Alain Lewis led the proceedings along with the President of the friendship  association, Cllr Zulhash Uddin, who is also the current Mayor of Southborough.

After lunch, the guests were entertained by Richard Griffin, who was a protection officer for both The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.

At the meeting a resolution was passed expressing determination that the friendship between Southborough and Lambersart will continue into the future, even against the backdrop of current political events surrounding Brexit.

A programme of activities presented to the association includes a proposed trip to northern France and Belgium to visit World War I sites and memorials, which is planned for September.
