Gin festival is the perfect tonic

The second Gin and Jazz Festival saw around 4,500 turn up on Saturday as temperatures reached the high 20s.

More than 30 of the best artisan gin producers were at the festival, serving special cocktails as well as classic gin and tonics, all against the backdrop of funky jazz music and live DJs.

Some of the tipples available included gins from the Copper Rivet Distillery, Ableforth’s Bathtub Gin, Audemus Spirits, Britishhoney, Anno Distillers and Greensand Ridge Distillery, along with a range of other drinks to savour including Champagne.

More than half of the producers sold out over the weekend due to the high demand.

Event organiser, Julian Leefe-Griffiths, said it was one of the most succesful festivals at The Pantiles.

He said: “It was probably the best and busiest event ever put on at The Pantiles. On Saturday, we had around 4,500 people. A few less on Sunday, but the weather was fantastic all weekend.

“It was lots of fun. There were no problems and everybody was having such a great time.”

He added that the event was a big boost to the traders at the bottom of town.

“We have had quite a slow start to the summer so it was just what we all needed,” he said.
