Free Health Walks to improve fitness and 'discover beauty of the borough'

The walks are free, and the first was held in Calverley Grounds last month. There are currently three pre-planned routes, though the Council’s health team are keen to expand to more areas.

Health Improvement Team Leader Rebecca Bowers said: “Our Health Walks are an enjoyable way to discover the beauty of your borough, meet new people and improve your health.

“The walks are led by volunteer leaders, and the aim is to show what a difference walking can make to your health and how enjoyable it can be.”

The walk in Calverley Grounds is held every Thursday at 1pm, meeting at the Calverley Park Café and lasting 30 to 40 minutes.

Another stroll through the town starts at the TN2 Centre in Sherwood on Wednesday mornings at 11am, and also lasts up to 40 minutes.

And on Tuesday mornings, there is an hour-long walk around Cranbrook, which starts at 9.30am.

Ramblers are asked to arrive ten minutes before the designated start wearing suitable outdoor clothing and footwear.

Rebecca added: “The Tunbridge Wells health team are looking to develop this walk scheme to provide better access to free activities across the borough.

“We are currently looking for new volunteers to run these health walks, with full training and support provided throughout. If you are interested in leading a new health walk in your area, then please get in touch!”

There will be a free Walk Leader training course for volunteers on Thursday February 20 from 10am to 2pm in Tunbridge Wells Town Hall.
