Find out how you can help YMCA projects for National Volunteer Week

YMCA West Kent are holding two drop-in sessions in Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge on June 6-7 to offer information about volunteering opportunities.

The Christian charity works primarily with young men and women who are facing major issues in their life, regardless of their religious background.

Issues they face include homelessness, family breakdown, emotional and mental health difficulties, neglect, drug or alcohol abuse, life after a conviction and exclusion from school.

The events coincide with National Volunteer Week, and the organisation is looking to recruit people who want to ‘make a difference to the local community’.

Susan Sharp said: “YMCA West Kent recognises the valuable contribution made by volunteers to our organisation and will be participating in Volunteer Week to share the work we do to empower disadvantaged young people to fulfil their potential.

“We would be delighted to meet you, introduce you to our team and tell you more about the volunteering opportunities we have to offer.”

She added: You are welcome to browse through the furniture and knick-knacks on sale – you are sure to find a bargain.

“Come and enjoy a cup of coffee and cake with us. We look forward to seeing you.”

Local YMCA projects include supported housing, vocational training and retail traineeships through its furniture stores in Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells, as well as bike recycling.

The sessions will be held at the West Kent YMCA Furniture Store in Goods Station Road, Tunbridge Wells, on Thursday June 6 from 10am to 2pm, and at the shop in Tower House, Vale Rise, Tonbridge, on Friday June 7 at the same time.

National Volunteers Week is held on June 1-7, with events and celebrations taking place across the country to thank volunteers and to recognise their invaluable and diverse contribution.
