Chocolat author ads sweet touch to the literary festival

7th February 2019

STARS from TV’s Gogglebox as well as bestselling author, Joanne Harris are to appear at this year’s Chiddingstone Castle Literary Festival.

The author will be discussing The Strawberry Thief, the sequel to her breakout novel, Chocolat, which is published 20 years after the original bestseller.

Following the huge success of last year’s events, the organisers have expanded the 2019 programme from three to four days. The festival kicks off over the May Bank Holiday weekend and will run from May 4-7.

Ms Harris will be joined by Giles and Mary from Channel 4’s Gogglebox, wine expert Oz Clarke, queen of Middle-Eastern cookery, Sabrina Ghayour along with writer, journalist and widower of Margaret Forster, Hunter Davies as well as a host of others.

Local Kent authors David Lough and Donald Sturrock are also at the festival to talk about letters the mothers of Winston Churchill and Ronald Dahl wrote to their famous children and the insights they provide.

For children, there’ll be modelling workshops with the creators of Wallace and Gromit, Aardman Animations, which are celebrating 30 years of the cheese loving duo.

Family favourites, Pericles Theatre Company will also present musical performances of the much loved The Little Mermaid in The Orangery.

Tickets are available online from March 1: www.chiddingstonecastle.org.uk/literaryfestival.  Ticket prices: individual adult events £13.50, children’s events £6.00
