ALL EARS: Hospital Radio Tunbridge Wells is looking for volunteers

More than 3,000 community projects apply for the funding nationwide.

Hospital Radio Tunbridge Wells [HRTW] launched a recruitment campaign via the Aviva scheme last October, when it asked local supporters to champion the project with online votes.

The charity’s trustee, Claire Backhurst, said: “We would like to thank everyone who voted for us to win an Aviva award.

“The money will go towards telecoms, website and broadband running costs, which will be crucial for our 2019 outreach project to recruit more volunteers.

“We are looking to expand the number of live shows being provided to both patients in the hospital and online via the charity’s website.”

HRTW is a registered charity that has been providing non-commercial bedside entertainment to patients since 1961.

It broadcasts 24/7 to Tunbridge Wells Hospital, Tonbridge Cottage Hospital, online at hrtw.org.uk and via the Tune In App.

It is currently applying to run a new community radio station in West Kent, covering Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge.

Over four million votes were cast this year for Aviva Community Fund grants, and more than 2,000 local projects have benefitted from them since the scheme began four years ago.
