Tonbridge Baseball Club has completed a successful season fielding two squads playing within the south east.
The Wildcats finished with an impressive unbeaten record of 12 victories and no losses within the single A league, with the side’s other team, The Bobcats, recording 11 wins and one loss.
With the season having reached its finale, the Wildcats have made the promotion semi-finals next weekend, after defeating Guildford Millers 12-8 on Sunday – which could see them potentially promoted.
Earlier this year, the team, which has its base at Deaconsfield, The Slade, in Tonbridge, also established a junior side, the Kent Knights.
This has helped introduce the sport, which is due to be included in the 2020 Olympics, to dozens of youngsters in the Tonbridge area.
There was also significant success for one of its Tonbridge-based senior team members, Amanda Murphy.
She is also head coach of Team GB’s Junior Women (under 19) softball team, which made history earlier this month by being the first GB team to beat Italy in a tournament, and also the first to win gold at a European fast pitch softball championship.
Team coach David Mote said: “It has been a fantastic season and it was so good to be able to field two teams, as well as having our kids’ side play, we have really been able to expand baseball in Tonbridge.
Both teams stepped-up, with the youth team also having a strong season, with around 25 children playing games within the south east. We’ve seen a lot of new players coming through this year.”
