WEST KENT charity Dial 2 Drive is looking to recruit volunteer drivers to help its community transport scheme for a few hours each month.
The service, provided by the Imago Community in Tunbridge Wells, was set up to help people who are unable to access public transport due to age, illness or disability.
It is offered to residents of Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks and the surrounding areas. The Dial 2 Drive team carried out more than 12,500 journeys last year.
Volunteer drivers use their own cars to take clients to doctors’ surgeries and hospitals, but also to social appointments, such as at day centres, lunch clubs and hairdressers, and on shopping trips.
The driving role is flexible and mileage expenses are reimbursed.
Jon Weller, Director of Community Services at Imago, said: “Dial 2 Drive is a friendly and trusted service designed to reduce isolation and loneliness.
“It provides an essential and affordable community transport service for hundreds of older people across the West Kent area, ensuring that those who are unable to easily access public transport can remain independent and active within their communities.
He added: “It’s a lifeline to the members, for whom the driver is often the only person they speak to during the week.”
