Walking to the Brazilian beat

The Tonbridge Walking Football Club are hoping to emulate the success of the 1970s Brazil team with their brand new kit.

The local over-50s football team, who play a twist on the beautiful game in that players are penalised if they run, received sponsorship from The Tonbridge Lions.

The players meet for games at Tonbridge School every Sunday.

Team Secretary Fred Long said: “We only starting playing Walking Football this year, and already have a core of 12 or 14 who turn up every Sunday, and are now looking forward to travelling all over Kent to represent Tonbridge in Kent FA tournaments”

Mr Long added: “To further inspire the team, I chose the Brazil 1970 World Cup winner colours, which just happen to be the Tonbridge Lions’ colours as well, so watch this space!”
