Village’s much-loved pharmacist retires after a quarter of a century

HILDENBOROUGH residents assembled at the village’s Farmers’ Market this month to thank Gurbax Sira and his wife Sabine for the 25 years of service they have given to
the community at Thompson Chemist.

Sira took over the Riding Lane pharmacy on March 1, 1992. Coincidentally, he handed over the shop to its new owners on the same date this year, making his tenure exactly a quarter of a century long.

Claire Sheldon, Chairman of the Parish Council, thanked a ‘very overcome’ Sira on behalf of the village and presented him with a cheque made up of generous donations collected from residents.

It was hoped he would put the money towards one of his new hobbies – a set of golf clubs had been proposed. Sira has also recently joined Tonbridge Lions Club, which he said was sure to keep him busy.

Sabine was also presented with a bouquet of flowers; it was pointed out that behind every good man is a good woman.
