THE Tunbridge Wells Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets detachment TS Brilliant will be holding their annual Family Fun Day at Ridgeway playing fields in Southborough on Sunday May 21 from 10.30am.
Â
The fete is the corps’ main fundraiser of the year to support its activities and training. The unit takes Cadets aged 10-18 and will provide information on the day about joining TS Brilliant in Albion Road.
Â
There will also be displays from the cadets and a programme of entertainment including an exhibition of classic cars and unusual vehicles, along with live music, stalls, refreshments and bouncy castle.
Â
The local branch is named after the destroyer HMS Brilliant, which was adopted by the borough of Tunbridge Wells during Warship Week in 1945.
There are 400 community groups across the UK, each with charitable status. The Tunbridge Wells Unit was founded in 1935 by the late Captain W A Cable of the Royal Indian Navy.
The local corps has taken part in the town’s Remembrance Day Parade every year since the end of the Second World War, and also runs a band.
The Sea Cadets were set up to celebrate Britain’s maritime heritage and contribute to its future development by supporting young people.
