Top marks for Tonbridge's Littleview nursery – where teachers send their children

LITTLEVIEW, the day nursery on the premises of Hillview School for Girls in Tonbridge, has received an ‘outstanding’ report following its Ofsted inspection.

The nursery, which is open in term time for the children of local teachers, caters for up to 26 children from eight months to four years old.

The report said: “Teaching is outstanding. Staff meticulously plan exceptional activities and experiences that are tailored to the needs of all children. For example, as children retell a favourite story, using natural materials and homemade mud, staff very skilfully encourage them to use expressive language.”

The nursery is run by a small team of six staff, four of whom have been working there for more than 12 years.

Hilary Burkett, Headteacher of Hillview and a member of the nursery committee, said: “I am absolutely delighted with the outcome from the Ofsted inspection.

“The nursery team work diligently for the children in their care and the outstanding grading is testament to their dedication, -commitment and passion.”

She added: “They understand the needs of each and every child and actively promote opportunities to support educational and social development, providing a truly outstanding provision.”

Ofsted said of the Manager, Rachel Carlow: “Her total dedication and devotion to the needs of young children and their families make her a truly inspirational leader.”

Becky Prior, a parent, said: “From musical bumps to painting, playing in the tree zone to dressing up as a pirate, watching chicks hatch and making seasonal crafts – as well as incorporating several traditional national holidays – the list of activities to stimulate and fulfil, are endless.”
