Tonbridge’s Teen and Twenty car park will be closed until 2020

Tonbridge's Teen and Twenty car park will be closed until 2020
CONSTRUCTIVE MOVE The car park will become a site compound for developers

THE development of the new super-surgery on the site of the Teen and Twenty Club will see the adjoining car park being closed to the public for up to two years.

Assura were planning to begin construction of the GP practice tomorrow [November 1] but the completion of the Agreement for Lease between the developer and the Tonbridge Medical Group is awaiting final resolution.

The removal of one of River Lawn’s horse chestnut trees, situated on the boundary of the site, will be one of the first tasks to be carried out.

Assura has said it will retain the trunk and employ a chainsaw carver to create a bespoke artwork piece, which will be donated to a local community organisation or school.

The car park on River Lawn Road, which contains spaces for more than 20 vehicles, will be occupied as a site compound.

The work is due to be completed by March 2020. But if construction is delayed, a further year of occupation will be permitted.

Once the new building has been finished, the car park to be restored to public use, except for five spaces which will be leased to Assura.

Adrian Stanfield, director of central services and monitoring officer for Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council, said: “We are erecting notices to advise the public that the car park will be closed for an extended period.

“The ticket machine will, however, remain accessible, as there are additional on street spaces that need to use the machine to purchase tickets.”
