HUNDREDS of visitors enjoyed the first ever Tonbridge Art Fair on Saturday [June 2] as the pipe opener for a month of Artists’ Open Studios.

River Walk provided a suitably scenic setting for stalls displaying paintings, drawings, jewellery, ceramics and photographs created by local artists.

Cllr Maria Heslop, Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, opened the fair and congratulated ‘the thriving art community in Tonbridge’, adding that she hoped it would become an annual event.

Organiser Anne Molineux thanked those who supported the event including Tonbridge Town Team, the council and the ArtSpring Gallery.

The Artists’ Open Studios, which are available at weekends until June 24, offer an opportunity to view the work of 35 local artists in 14 studios in Tonbridge, Hadlow, Yalding, Laddingford and Marden.

Entry is free and visitors can meet the artists and see them at work.
