A WOMAN from Tonbridge has been sent to prison for a violent assault in the town last year when she also used racist abuse.
Chloe Glew punched a woman to the ground close to Scott Road on July 8. The victim had been walking through an alleyway when she saw Glew get out of a car and threaten her with violence before striking her on the side of the head.
Glew kept hitting her as she lay on the ground, while shouting racist abuse. Police found the victim in a distressed state, sitting at a bus stop.
Glew was arrested nearby but denied any wrongdoing. She claimed a fight had been instigated by the victim and that all she had done was push her in self-defence.
At Maidstone Crown Court Glew, aged 20 and formerly of Hamble Road, pleaded guilty to a charge of racially aggravated assault by beating. She was sentenced to one year and four months.
She also received a Criminal Behaviour Order prohibiting her from visiting certain locations and drinking alcohol in public places for three years.
Police Constable Becky Ballard said: “Glew is a persistent offender in Tonbridge who has caused a number of repeated issues in the town centre, often related to anti-social behaviour and violence.
“On this occasion a prison sentence is entirely appropriate. There can never be any excuse for racist abuse and Kent Police takes all matters of prejudice extremely seriously and will always employ a zero tolerance towards anyone demonstrating this sort of behaviour.”
