Tonbridge primary school is officially opened

THE Bishop of Rochester, the Right Reverend James Langstaff, officially opened Bishop Chavasse Primary School on Baker Lane, Tonbridge this month.

Tom Tugendhat MP attended the ceremony at the Tenax Schools Trust academy, which has 60 pupils but will grow to 360 by 2023.

The Church of England school is affiliated with St Stephen’s Church and supported by Bennett Memorial Diocesan School in -Tunbridge Wells.

It is named after a former Bishop of -Rochester, Noel Godfrey Chavasse, the only man to be awarded the Victoria Cross twice in World War I – and one of only three men ever to have received the honour twice.

He also took part in the 400 metres sprint at the 1908 Olympics in London.
