Tonbridge festival gives back to the community

Organisers of this summer’s Tonbridge Calling community arts festival have donated a total of £300 for two causes within the area.

The group presented cheques to Kent homelessness charities Porchlight UK and The Bridge Trust during the town’s Dragon Boat Race.

Both organisations entered teams in the event, with the money for Porchlight going towards funding a young person to attend college after sleeping rough.

The arts group also donated a further £150 for the Grant Rule Trust, which works to achieve connected, healthy and happy communities.

Fred Long, a coordinator of Tonbridge Calling, felt it had been a huge success given that it had been put together at short notice.

The group was organised to demonstrate the area’s tolerance in the wake of a national rise in race-related hate crime incidents following the EU referendum.

As a result of how well it has been received, Tonbridge Calling has confirmed that it will be returning to the town next summer.
