Haysden Country Park has gained a prestigious Green Flag Award for the 11th year in a row, making it among the best parks in the UK.

The 165-acre park, which is managed by the borough council, received the accolade from the Keep Britain Tidy organisation, which launched the award scheme 20 years ago.

Haysden Country Park now includes a new children’s play area, freshly-created jetty at Barden Lake, picnic tables overlooking the lake, and a range of habitats such as grassland, freshwater lakes, marshland and woodland, which are home to a wealth of insects, birds and animals.

It is also a designated local nature reserve featuring a Friendship Wood commemorating the 25th anniversary of twinning between Tonbridge & Malling and Heusenstamm.

The park is managed and maintained with the help of local volunteers who meet regularly to carry out organised tasks like litter picking, coppicing and tree planting.

Cllr Maria Heslop, Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “I’m delighted that the Green Flag will continue to fly high at Haysden Country Park this year.

“We continue to develop the park with the help of our volunteer groups, rangers and visitors and this year, just in time for the summer holidays.”
