Tonbridge children running wild for birthday party

Cancer patients invited to join 5K Your Way launch at parkrun

TONBRIDGE’S junior parkrun celebrated its first birthday with cake and fancy dress as well as fitness and exercise.

The free weekly event, held on Sunday mornings at Tonbridge Farm Sportsground, sees children aged four to 14 running 2km in a non-competitive environment.

The idea was launched in Bushy Park, Teddington in 2010, six years after the senior version, and is currently held at 235 locations across the UK.

Volunteer organiser Lyndon Jennings said: ‘There is a real focus on inclusivity and welcoming individuals of all abilities to parkrun.

‘We have 80 runners and walkers each week on average, including children with learning difficulties and autism.’

He added: ‘We have had very positive feedback from parents, with them having seen significant improvements in confidence and wellbeing.’
