A NEW car show to raise money for the Poppy Appeal has launched Tonbridge’s centenary celebrations of the end of World War I.

The Poppy Power event was held on Sovereign Way on Sunday [May 27] and raised over £1500.

It was organised by Henry Clarke of insurance brokers Clarke Williams, in association with Carl Lewis, organiser of the Tonbridge Poppy Appeal.

‘We had 86 cars on show in the end as we lost a few due to the thunderstorms as they were travelling down,’ said Mr Clarke.

‘The car clubs have already been asking me about next year and we are looking at various solutions including a new venue to allow for more amusements and activities for families.’
