After impressing at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Team GB race walker Tom Bosworth has returned to Tonbridge Athletic club to help inspire future stars.

The 26 year-old athlete, who set a new British record when he finished sixth in his 20km event last month in Brazil, said the games were an unforgettable experience.

He is now training in Leeds for future events, but had a rare chance to relax for a few weeks with friends and family in West Kent this month.

While visiting his parents near Tonbridge, he took the opportunity to join a training session with juniors at Tonbridge Athletic who are keen to follow in his speedy footsteps.

He said: “I’ve had so much support from everyone including my old trainer Pete Selby here at Tonbridge. Ever since I moved to Leeds he has kept in contact.

“Since coming back I’ve managed to have a big get-together with friends and family that was really good, with about 40 or 50 people turning up.

“I’ve just taken a month off but will now be focusing on the London [world] championships next year.”

He added that the close season of racing would involve preparing to return to full training, as well as raising sponsorship as he builds towards the next Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.
