They’ve got the moves – and an important safety message

FIREFIGHTERS parodied a classic scene from the film Dirty Dancing to highlight the importance of testing smoke alarms.

Kent Fire & Rescue Service [KFRS] regulars Joanne Gilham and Nathan Pavey took the roles of Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze for the YouTube clip, now seen more than 18,000 times.

The video ties in with the 30th anniversary of the romantic drama and sees the firefighters dance in full gear to the backing of theme ‘(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life’.

In the climactic moment, Mr Pavey lifts Ms Gilham into the air for her to press the test button on a smoke alarm. A message then appears saying: “Keep having the time of your life – test your smoke alarm weekly.”

Ian Thomson, Head of Community Safety at KFRS, said: “This parody is a great deal of fun, but delivers a simple yet serious message about carrying out a quick [alarm] check every week.

“This check can make such a difference to the lives of the people we care about and love
the most.
