Swimming: Tonbridge fine-tune race practice

TONBRIDGE Swimming Club took 20 swimmers to Sevenoaks to compete against five other squads in the annual Inter-Club Sprints Trophy gala.

The individual races were all 50 metres apart from the youngest age group (25m sprints) and all the relays were 4x25m splash and dashes.

This gala also had mixed relays races with teams made up of two boys and two girls. With the boys and girls swimming in any order this made for some exciting races with the lead often changing on each length.

Tonbridge ended the evening as they had begun, by winning 5 of the last 6 events, including the exciting Squadron relay comprising of a boy and girl from each age group.

Individual races were won by Grace MacAuley, Ruben Cowley-Antelo, Amelie Thomas-Green (two), Charlie Brice, Erin Nisbet, Sarah Brown, Oscar Thatcher, Noemie Thomson, Toby Henbest and Charlie Curtis.

The 10 and under medley and free, 12 and under medley, 14 and under medley and 8x25m squadron relays also won.

There were also second place swims by Holly Geake (two), Emily Geake, Harry Bevan and Sarah Brown, as well as the Open medley relay and the 14 and under freestyle relay teams.

This gala was one of the best team efforts in recent months ahead of the annual club championships when swimmers will look to gain Kent County Qualification times.
