Stylish show comes to West Kent College

A touch of Milan came to Tonbridge on Friday 1st June, when an exclusive guest list of industry representatives and stakeholders gathered for the Fashion Degree Show 2018 at West Kent College – an end of year catwalk show, celebrating the work of University of Kent FdA & BA (Hons) Degree Fashion & Textiles students.

Guests enjoyed drinks on arrival and then watched the main event staged in the College’s theatre. A diverse range of pieces was on show, including collections variously inspired by the archive at Leeds Castle and the historical heiress owner Lady Baillie, Chinese pottery, childhood films, a project linked to wartime coding and hidden messages in hand-woven pieces and a collection involving research in a Cambridge college archive into photographs of working women from history.

The students will also be exhibiting at New Designers, the UK’s most important graduate design exhibition, at The Business Design Centre in London, from June 28 to 30.

West Kent College’s degree students have a history of success at New Designers. In 2016, Cripa Yangkhrung won the Hainsworth Statement Award, worth £1,000, at the event and other students were approached by employers with job offers and internships.
