THE MEAD SCHOOLÂ in Tunbridge Wells is launching a petition in a bid to raise funds to place a zebra crossing outside its gates on the busy A267 Frant Road.
The idea came about following the retirement of their lollipop man, David Douse.
Headmistress Angela Culley said: “David was a wonderful lollipop man who not only helped generations of Mead families across the road, but also an enormous number of the general public, who were always so grateful and appreciative.
“Sadly, he has retired, and we look forward to finding the best solution for everyone.
“We are hoping to fund a zebra crossing, thereby providing a safe, permanent, clearly defined place for everyone to cross this dangerous road.”
A public meeting will take place at the school on Monday December 5 at 6pm, when a copy of the petition will be available to sign. Organisers hope to collect more than 1,000 signatures.
