Rocking for refugees

LEADING LIGHT Abi Todd was named Kent League Player of the Year

A CAMPAIGN group are staging an event this summer to celebrate the value of community.

Tonbridge Welcomes Refugees will host the music and food-filled day on June 17 at The Chequerboard outside the Angel Centre.

It is part of The Great Get Together, a national celebration of the murdered MP Jo Cox’s belief ‘that we have far more in common than things that divide us’. Currently their website claims there are already 109,000 ‘get-togethers’ planned.

It also coincides with the beginning of Refugee Week, an honouring of the contribution that refugees make to our society.

Actor and refugee campaigner, Juliet Stevenson, said: “Every day across the country, Refugee Welcome groups are demonstrating that Britain is a country proud to welcome refugees fleeing conflict and persecution. In places like Tonbridge, communities have come together in response to the refugee crisis to find accommodation and support to resettle the most vulnerable refugees and advocate for safe and legal routes to protection.”
