In July some of the West End’s leading female singers gathered at Tonbridge Castle for a gala evening of Musical Theatre Leading Ladies.
In the build-up to the event, a competition invited young people aged 11 to 18 from the area to send in showtapes of themselves singing a song from a show.
Renowned musical star Kelly Ellis selected the winner from a shortlist of five and chose 15-year-old Lily May Marshall out of more than 50 entries.
The student from Hillview School went on to perform her song, Pulled from the Addams Family musical, live on stage at the Castle in front of a packed audience.
Now 15 of the young singers are appearing in two performances of Rising Star: The Show at EM Forster theatre on Sunday, at 3pm and 7.30pm.
Lily May will perform a duet with local singer Sammy Timbers singing ‘Let me be your star’, a song that inspired them after hearing it sung by Shanay Holmes and Christina Modestou at the Castle.
