Rising star' audition to sing at Tonbridge Castle concert
GATEWAY TO SUCCESS: Local producers Oliver Tourle and Hannah Rotchell both went to Hillview

The winner will also be invited to record tracks in a professional studio.

The Rising Star competition is seeking young people who dream of being a West End star to send in videos of themselves performing a show-stopping musical theatre song.

The winner will be showcased at the start of the eagerly awaited Musical Theatre Leading Ladies concert at Tonbridge Castle on Sunday July 9.

Kerry Ellis, known as the ‘First Lady of musical theatre’, will be singing alongside an array of proven female theatrical singers, accompanied by a live orchestra and the Hillview Singers.

‘This is a really exciting opportunity for anyone aspiring to be a performer’

The award-winning West End and Broadway legend has starred in a dazzling range of musicals including Wicked, Les Miserables, Oliver!, We Will Rock You and Cats.

The competition is open to young people aged 11 to 18. Entrants are asked to upload their song to YouTube and submit the link via an online form which can be found at sundayatthecastle.com

The video must only show the singer performing a solo song from musical theatre, which should be at least two minutes long.

All submissions will be watched by the event organisers and narrowed down to a field of five favourites. These finalists will be sent to Ms Ellis, who will make the final decision.

All five will appear in the Leading Ladies brochure available at the show.

Hannah Rotchell, choreographer and former pupil at Hillview School, is the co-producer of the show Sunday Night at the Castle.

She said: “We would like a basic, yet clear video to represent your raw talent, helping us to make a fair and honest decision.

“Your voice must not have been altered in any way through editing software, nor should your recording be to a professional standard.”

The winner will also be able to spend two hours in Lana Banana Studios in Sevenoaks recording and mixing two songs of his or her choice.

Co-producer Oliver Tourle, a local singer who also attended Hillview, said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for anyone aspiring to be a performer, especially in our local town.

“Both myself and Hannah grew up in Tonbridge and are thrilled that Kerry is going to be a part of this and see some of the wonderful talent that our local area has to offer.”

Entries must be received by Sunday June 16.
