The picnic in the park to mark The Queen’s 90th birthday planned for Sunday in Tonbridge Park was called off after the heavens opened over the weekend.
The event had been set to feature a royal bake off, but the Tonbridge Town Team organisers reluctantly decided to cancel after torrential rain on Saturday left the ground waterlogged.
Howard Porter, of Tonbridge Town Team, praised the few hardy souls who still ventured out to support the event, some of whom are pictured above.
He said: “There are normally anything between 2,000 and 3,000 people out in the park at the weekend, so we thought that by holding something that was fairly low-key it would be a good way to celebrate The Queen’s Birthday.
“Vivian Branson had made a lot of cakes for it, so we decided to hand them out to those who still turned up. It is a shame we had to cancel but the weather is something we can’t do anything about.”
