Protesters unite against antisocial night racers

Royal Victoria Hall

Residents have backed a petition calling for a trial night-time closure of Tonbridge car parks to tackle noisy boy racers gathering.

More than 110 people have already supported the move.

According to the petition, started by Tonbridge resident Simon Jones, the issue has been at its worst in Sovereign Way, the Angel Centre and industrial estate car parks. He is calling for a trial night-time closure at those locations from 8pm to 6am.

The issue has been taken up by Tonbridge & Malling MP Tom Tugendhat, who said when working late at his constituency office nearby he can hear the sound of screeching cars in the supermarket car parks.

The MP has written to Tonbridge Police to urge them to make the issue a priority.

Mr Jones said: “I am proposing a trial run. Once we have shown the council this could be a solution we can find a more permanent way, such as an exit only system.”
