Poult Wood is providing Dementia Friendly Golf

POULT WOOD Golf Course near Tonbridge is offering a regular Dementia Friendly Golf Morning on the second Tuesday of each month following a highly successful pilot programme.

Starting at 11am, these open sessions include a round on the nine-hole course, tuition on the driving range and hot drinks after the game.

“The scheme started after one of the club’s members who played regularly was struck down with the condition,” said the club’s Head Pro, David Copsey.

“His wife got in contact with us and put us in touch with the charity Dementia Friendly Tonbridge, and it went from there.”

He adds: “From speaking to people on the dementia side, golf is an ideal sport because it gets people outside and walking about, but also gets them thinking.

“Our nine-hole golf course is ideal for this, too. It only takes about an hour or 75 minutes, and there’s just one par four, the rest are par threes.

“Our short course is exceptionally good, much better than anything else in the area. It’s set in mature woodland with stunning surroundings, and it’s in very good condition.”

The morning costs £6 per person, with carers free of charge, and a Golf Buddy system is on offer.
