A GROUP of Tonbridge volunteers has received £340 from the town’s branch of Waitrose.
Haysden Country Park Volunteers were selected as one of the causes to be supported by the supermarket’s Community Matters scheme.
Chairman of the park group, Kevin Lavender, said the team were really pleased with the donation. He said: “We will put the money towards planting and landscaping of the revetment work at Barden Lake. It will help us to continue making it an attractive focal point for visitors to enjoy whilst walking around the lake.”
The 165-acre park is set in the Medway Valley to the west of Tonbridge and encompasses a range of habitats including river, grassland, freshwater lakes, marshland and woodland.
Featuring Barden Lake at its eastern end, Haysden Water to the west, and the River Medway running along the northern extremes of the site, the park is also host to a flood relief barrier that plays a central role in the protection of Tonbridge from excessive water.
