BUSINESSES are being urged to sign up for a scheme to improve the connection between employers and young people.
The West Kent Enterprise Adviser Network matches an individual business leader with a local school with the aim of preparing students for the world of work. It was launched at West Kent College, Tonbridge, with a dedicated coordinator for the project joining in September.
The Chairman of the West Kent Partnership, Nicolas Heslop, said: “Local business leaders tell us of their frustration at the fragmented nature of careers advice and guidance for young people and the challenges of recruitment, and this initiative is aimed at positively meeting the needs of employers and helping youngsters understand the world of work.”
A survey from the UK Commission for Employment and Skills found that 66 per cent of businesses believe work experience is critical for recruitment yet only 38 per cent offer work experience in England.
