New Tonbridge Rotary Club chief wants to ‘make a difference’

The club was chartered in 1924 and each year has appointed a different President so there have been 94 different holders of the office.

Mr Higgins studied chemical engineering at Imperial College, London and began his career with the American oil company Conoco at their oil refinery on Humberside.

He also worked at the company’s head offices in Houston, Texas before moving to London where he headed up a speciality marketing business on a global scale. He retired in 2014 having worked at Conoco for 41 years.

Mr Higgins said: “My theme for the year will be ‘making a difference’ in all we do for the community, and in the club’s fundraising efforts as it supports the Rotary ideal of ‘service above self’.

Peter Ruck was also named as the new President-Elect with Barry Ednie the incoming Vice-President.
