MP Tom Tugendhat praises Bluebird for new live-in care service

TONBRIDGE MP Tom Tugendhat has praised a local care company for starting a premium live-in care service.

The initiative, offered by Bluebird Care in Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells, allows older people who need round-the-clock attention to stay in the comfort of their own homes.

Mr Tugendhat said: “Many people with additional care needs prefer to live at home rather than move into a care home. Bluebird Care and other similar companies do a fantastic job in enabling this.

“Carers perform a vital role in our community, providing support to vulnerable people so they can continue to live in their own home, and relieve the pressures on care homes and the NHS.”

Care Assistants live with customers for anything from two weeks onwards, depending on whether the ongoing care and support required is short-term or long-term.

Mr Tugendhat visited Bluebird Care customer Joan Simmonds, 97, and her husband, Sydney, 99, at their home in Tonbridge, and met their Care Assistant, Anastasia Annan.

The visit was an opportunity to learn more about how the company provides home care to people with age-related requirements, as well as live-in care for people with complex health needs, such as dementia.

Nathan Brown, Community Liaison Man- ager at Bluebird Care Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells, elaborated on the service.

“Live-in care provides the right support with daily tasks from assistance with cooking and cleaning to ensuring customers take their medication and providing companionship,” he said.

Having taken on the role of Joan’s full-time carer after she suffered an illness, the demands became too much for her husband to cope with.

Without Bluebird’s support, Joan would have had to move into a care home and away from Sydney.
