Mixture of homes is approved for the industrial site

A DEVELOPMENT of 31 homes will be built on the Travis Perkins industrial site after it was approved by councillors.

The three-block construction on Belgrave Road, Tunbridge Wells, will be a mixture of one-bed and two-bed flats with four houses also planned.

With builders’ merchants Travis Perkins moving to Longfield Way, Councillor Bob Backhouse, a member of Tunbridge Wells Borough Council’s planning committee, said the development has green credentials.

“It is good to have the properties built near the town centre as it will allow residents to walk in and which will stop traffic movements.

“We have a traffic problem and it is awful at certain times of the day. This is one step which can prevent making it worse.”

Councillor Backhouse said the proposal was well-received by most. Four of the flats would be classified as affordable housing.
