Marathon number six for friendly Hana

Tonbridge Half Marathon Route Map

The Tonbridge Half Marathon will have quite a few local runners who have been in every one since it started six years ago, and one of these is Tonbridge-based mum of four Hana Winter.

Hana is a regular attendee of the Tonbridge Park Runs, held every Saturday morning on the Racecourse Ground.

You may recognise her as she works in Humphrey Bean, the JD Wetherspoons Pub in the High Street, where she has been for 18 years.

Hana and a group of friends have been using the friendly 5km park runs as training for the Half Marathon.

These include Viv Briggs, who is entering for the second year, Greta Jermaine who is running the race for the first time, and Jim and Mary Purcell, who have completed three Half Marathons so far.

It was the challenge of the race that attracted Hana back in 2010 to the first event.

She said: “I had been running for about a year but was looking for something to keep me motivated, and so entered the Half Marathon.

“I loved the community spirit generated by the crowds that came to watch and the other runners, so I persuaded a group of friends to get involved.”

One of them, Emma Gill, is running to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation as her six-year-old son has Type 1 diabetes.
