Police say patrols attended Martin Hardie Way in the town on Wednesday [July 1] following a report of a disturbance.
A man was arrested for public order offences, during which it is reported he assaulted one of the officers.
After he was taken into custody at Tonbridge Police Station it is alleged the suspect spat in an officer’s eye and also spat on another officer’s uniform.
Ismail Jaffari, aged 28, of Royal West Kent Avenue, was later charged with three counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker.
He was further charged with being drunk and disorderly, using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress and with causing criminal damage, in relation to damage caused to a police vehicle.
Mr Jaffari is bailed to appear before Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on August 3.
