Lions take pride in festive collections

THE Southborough and District Lions Club raised a total of £4,232 during their annual door-to-door Christmas collections, which they carried out for the 35th year.

The funds went towards providing and sending out 84 Christmas food hampers for elderly residents and others who were considered deserving.

The charitable organisation visited Southborough, High Brooms, Bidborough, Langton Green and Tunbridge Wells over eight evenings during the festive period.

There were also three static collection points at Sainsbury’s and Tesco on St John’s Road and the Millennium Clock at Fiveways in the town centre.

The Lions’ Fundraising Chairman Peter Mersh said: “We very much appreciate the wonderful support the public give us at this time of the year.

“Having distributed the hampers already, it is of the utmost importance that we use the public’s contributions fairly and wisely throughout the coming year. This we shall endeavour to do.”

The Lions’ next fundraising venture will be a sponsored darts tournament to be held at pubs and clubs during April and May.
