Lions’ free diabetes screening session helps save lives

A free diabetes screening session by SE Medical staff has been organised by Tonbridge Lions to take place at the Angel Centre car park Screening Centre (High Street side) this Saturday, 6 August, between 9am and 4pm.

Nationally, there are four million people living with diabetes, with many cases not diagnosed until complications have already started to develop.

These potentially include blindness, kidney failure, heart disease, stroke, nerve damage and circulation problems.

Qualified medical staff from SE Medical will carry out the screening, which involves a very simple blood test from the finger to measure blood sugar, with an immediate result.

The Lions expect to screen 200-300 people. Adults over the age of 40 are the most likely group to develop diabetes. However, children can be tested provided they are accompanied by a parent or guardian and following a consultation with one of the medical staff. There will be no charge for the test, as all costs will be met by Tonbridge Lions Club.
