Just the ticket as parking scheme helps Porchlight

LOCAL homelessness charity Porchlight received a donation of £3,600 from the companies which are transforming the former Tubs Hill House in Sevenoaks into luxury apartments.

Porchlight, which operates in Tonbridge, is one of Kent’s leading charities supporting vulnerable and homeless people across the county.

The inspiration for the fundraising venture came from Gary Puckett, Site Manager for contractors Buxton, after he saw a homeless person at the town’s station.

He decided to raise money by charging everyone who visited the building site a modest amount for parking their car.

Over a period of 10 months, £1,200 was raised and the amount was matched equally by developers Prime Place and consultants Calfordseaden.

Mr Puckett said: “Everyone visiting the site was happy to help and it shows how a small contribution from a lot of people quickly adds up and can make a real difference.”

Andrew Hinkins, Head of Development at Prime Place, added: “We thought Gary’s idea was brilliant. We’re always keen to support local communities where we build and were happy to contribute to such a worthwhile cause.”
