AGE UK Sevenoaks and Tonbridge are appealing for volunteers to help run a second lunch club once a month.
The existing lunch club in Forsyth Hall on Bradford Street, Tonbridge runs on the first Thursday of every month with 36 members.
It is run solely by volunteers, who consist of cooks and kitchen support, waiters, table layers and people to take payment and issue receipts.
“Our current lunch club is so successful. Clients enjoy a delicious two-course meal followed by coffee and mints, all for only £4.50,” said Mrs Jo Harrington, the Tonbridge Office Administrator.
“Demand for the club is high and whilst Tonbridge is very lucky to have a number of successful lunch clubs. we do have a waiting list of people wanting to join ours.”
Mark Rhodes, Mayor of Tonbridge, and his wife attended the lunch club on 6 April and were treated to homemade lasagne, chips and salad followed by jelly and ice cream.
“Some clients enjoy the company as they tend to eat most of their meals alone at home,” said Mr Rhodes.
“Others like the fact they don’t have to cook for themselves and can enjoy a satisfying good value lunch with friends.
“Without volunteers these types of services could not be set up and maintained,” he added. “It would be wonderful if Age UK Sevenoaks and Tonbridge were to get another monthly club up and running.”
