Jack Ralph, 28, of Carpenters Lane, Hadlow, is accused of killing Margaret Harris, 78, and her daughter Sharon, 55, at their home in a neighbouring property in the village.

Police were called to the residence on Saturday [September 29] at 7.40am. They were found stabbed – both women died at the scene.

Mrs Harris’s husband David, also in his 70s, was seriously injured and taken to a London hospital where he remains in a stable condition. Ralph has also been charged with the attempted murder of Mr Harris.

The suspect appeared at Maidstone Crown Court via video link on Wednesday [October 3] and is due to appear at the same court on October 29, when he will enter pleas to the three charges.

Ralph spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and nationality. Judge Philip Statman set a provisional trial date before a High Court judge for March 5 next year.
