TONBRIDGE’S cafés are banding together to help raise funds for the town’s Age UK centre.
Throughout August, 11 coffee shops will form a trail to explore – by showcasing a selection of tea cosies that have been hand-knitted by a group of volunteers.
The woollen designs range from colourful bees to Her Majesty The Queen, and if any of them really catch the eye there will be an opportunity to take one home with you via a bid in a silent auction.
All funds will go to the local Age UK centre to help them continue to offer independent living support to the elderly, including befriending, chiropody, computer lessons and social services.
One of the Tonbridge Office Managers, Jenny McDougall, said: “We are really hoping the town will support this fun initiative and take the time to visit the venues to view the hard work put in by our knitting volunteers, and then participate in the silent auction.
“We enjoy helping the older community and want people to know what we do and where we are. “Many clients are housebound and rely on our support workers to shop and clean for them, or a befriending volunteer to visit and have a chat.”
