Father Christmas has been feeling grotty in Tonbridge...

Father Christmas was due to start handing out presents in the Great Hall at the start of December but was indisposed.

The town’s first such event, hosted by Tonbridge Old Fire Station [TOFS], will now start this weekend [December 8] and runs until December 23.

TOFS co-owner Sam Goode, whose children were among those who missed out, said 90 per cent of the bookings had been rearranged.

The package includes either breakfast from 9.30am or afternoon tea from 12.30-3.30pm, with pastries provided by Dinesh Maharjan.

The award-winning patissier is the owner of the Nepalese restaurant Gurkha Planet on Avebury Avenue.

Cllr Maria Heslop, Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, says: “We are always looking for innovative ways to work with local businesses to create exciting events that will appeal to visitors and this is a perfect example.

“What could be better than to meet Father Christmas in the magical Great Hall at Tonbridge Castle while enjoying a sumptuous breakfast or a delicious afternoon tea prepared by Tonbridge Old Fire Stations award-winning chef?”

Prices are as follows:

Breakfast: Adults £14.50, children (under 16) £13.50 plus small booking fee.

Afternoon Tea: Adults £16, Children (under 16) £15 plus small booking fee.
