Hadlow College is facing a bit of crisis this summer, not due to a lack of teachers or students – but a shortage of dogs.
The college’s Dog Grooming School, which is jointly run with the Pet Industry Federation (PIF), has launched an appeal for local residents to drop off their furry friends this summer, as they struggle to meet their requirement of 18 dogs a day.
And with an offer of a free fashionable summer trim for their canine companions, they are hoping they can tempt enough pet-owners to fill up their 20-week course.
Belinda Morris, one of the four staff at the department, told the Times: “We need about 50 more dogs on rotation- but they only need to come in once every few weeks.”
“We have indoor and outdoor kennels and mounted wall latches for dogs who don’t like kennels. The dog’s welfare is our priority at all times.”
Listing a number of breeds required she explained: “We need specific dogs to meet the criteria of the course. Our students need to be able to groom these dogs up to breed standard if they want to receive their Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming.”
The college is looking for:
English Cocker Spaniels, English Springer Spaniels, West Highland White Terriers, Cairns, Scottish Terriers, Sealyham Terriers, Miniature Schnauzers, Miniature Poodles, Wire Fox Terriers, Welsh Terriers and Lakeland Terriers.
